Permit reservations are opening up, and there’s a lot to cover. So, buckle up!
Canadian permits
If you love backpacking in the US, you will love the Canadian Rockies. Reservations are opening up now but you can get notified when we find canceled permits. Not sure where to go? Here is a list of my favorite trips to get you started.
Notable lotteries and releases
- Yosemite: weekly lottery (tips)
- Mt. Whitney: lottery Feb 1 – Mar 1 (tips)
- Sequoia & Kings Canyon: daily release
- Inyo National Forest: daily release

Mt. Whitney, Inyo — overnight/day-use
| • | Feb 1 Lottery opens for trips between May 1 and November 1. Lottery closes March 1 at 11:59pm PT. Add to calendar |
Yosemite — overnight
| • | Weekly12:01am PT Advance lottery opens every Sunday and closes the following Saturday. Apply in February for trips starting between July 13 and August 16. |
Yosemite — day-use
| • | 3 days ahead8am PT Reservations open 2 days ahead of entry to enter February 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, 22, or 23. No reservations needed for other days. Add to calendar |
Lost Coast — overnight
| • | 3 months ahead7am PT Reservations open 3 months ahead of the trip start date. Book in February for trips starting in May. Add to calendar |
Inyo — overnight
| • | 6 months ahead7am PT Advance reservations open 6 months ahead of the trip start date. Book in February for trips starting in August. Add to calendar |
Desolation Wilderness — overnight
